Founder of Open Brush Studio

Open Brush Studio was created from a belief that experiences matter.

Some of our most meaningful memories are shaped through moments shared with family and friends — creating together, celebrating milestones, gathering around food, laughter, creativity, and connection. The experiences we have often stay with us long after the moment has passed, becoming part of the stories we carry and the memories we cherish. I wanted to create a business that blends creativity, thoughtful details, connection, and meaningful experiences into one welcoming space.

My professional journey began in visual display and merchandising, where I learned how design, atmosphere, storytelling, and presentation shape how people experience a space. I worked in visual merchandising for Macy’s, supporting stores from South Jersey to the Hamptons, creating displays and environments that invited people in and made moments feel memorable. That experience taught me that details matter — how a space feels, how people connect within it, and how experiences can leave lasting impressions.

Later, my passion led me into education, where I spent more than 25 years as an art educator in New York City and New Jersey public schools. Throughout my career, I worked with students of all ages and backgrounds, helped strengthen and revitalize art programming, developed curriculum, supported school productions, and witnessed firsthand the confidence, healing, joy, and self-expression that creativity can bring.

Over the years, I noticed something important: people come to art for different reasons. Some seek technical growth and portfolio development. Others want relaxation, confidence, self-expression, healing, social connection, or simply a welcoming place to create. I believed art education should honor those differences rather than take a one-size-fits-all approach.

That belief inspired the design of Open Brush Studio’s unique class pathways — thoughtfully created spaces where children, teens, adults, and seniors can create for reasons meaningful to them, whether for expression, growth, confidence, creativity, community, or connection.

As a retired educator and lifelong creative, Open Brush Studio is also my way of giving back — especially to the community that shaped me. Born and raised in Piscataway, New Jersey, I wanted to create something that feels warm, welcoming, creative, and community-centered: a place where people feel seen, inspired, and encouraged to explore their creativity at any age or stage of life.

In addition to art classes and creative experiences, Open Brush Studio also reflects my passion for visual storytelling through seasonal displays and merchandising. I hope to support small businesses by helping them create welcoming, memorable spaces through visual merchandising, seasonal design, and thoughtful presentation — especially for business owners who may not have the time, storage, or resources to do it themselves.

At Open Brush Studio, art is not about perfection — it is about expression, confidence, growth, connection, and creating meaningful experiences that stay with us long after the paint dries.

Art with heart and purpose.
